I know this sounds cold and unfeeling, but I have a very simple solution to this problem. If possible, keep the elderly away from computers, or at least supervise them when they are online. 🥴

Whenever I hear the Indian accent on the phone, I just tell insults and hang up on the animal on the phone.

You should have told the police in your country and ask them to inform the Indian authorities (or provide the information to the Indian embassy/consul in your country). The Indian government is really starting to clamp down on this stuff as it is bad for the reputation of India worldwide. They have awesome legitimate tech companies and this is an embarrassment to them. Make the scammers know means they will uproot and base elsewhere, losing the ability to prosecute them and their bosses.

I'm surprised so many people fall for it. The English of the Indians is distinctive, everyone should know where computer scammers are based.

I got that "I'm from Amazon..." call. I interrupted him and said, "No you're not, you are a lying sack of ****." He called me a sack of **** and hung up on me. Every legitimate call I have ever gotten about possible fraud always addresses me by name.
